OEMS changes Station 1 (AGAIN)
« on: August 11, 2008, 02:31:04 PM »
Effective 8/1/08 the EMT-Basic Exam Station 1 for Resus has been changed.

OEMS provided training institutions with this information only about 2 weeks prior to it being implemented without time to comment or ask questions or raise objections.

this is the second time in the same calendar year that OEMS has done this.  on the plus side, it is the same changes on station 1 that they tried to implement in January and then pulled back, so we have seen it before, and just like last time, they have provided no training to us prior to it's implementation.

in some cases it isn't that bad, it is essentially AHA CPR, but there are just operation questions.

in a recent email, we did discover that 2 minutes of CPR prior to AED is suppose to be done.

Subject: RE: CPR Station Sheet

Candidates at the practical skills portion of the state certification exam are expected to demonstrate (perform) their mastery of the psychomotor skills at each of the stations.  With respect to Station 1 –CPR, candidates will perform two (2) minutes of CPR before the S/AED is applied & used.  Candidates will be evaluated on rate, depth & location of hands during chest compressions & ventilatory skills.
